It's a scam. If it costs money and advertises "prestige", then it's probably a scam/doesn't help with acceptance. It won't give you a scholarship just for joining, but they offer scholarship opportunities. In addition, they offer meet-ups across the country so you could connect with other NSHSS members.
However, a quick internet search for 'National Society of Collegiate Scholars' seemed to turn up chapters on the campuses of several well-known universities, including Dartmouth, Cornell, UC Berkeley (to name just a few). There was one hit that seems to think NSCS is a scam - do a search on 'scam Collegiate Scholars'.</p><p>National Society of Collegiate Scholars isn't a scam - I was a member of my undergraduate chapter. Different chapters have different levels of activity, but my undergrad chapter was pretty active - we did community service activities, hangouts together. And NSCS has a national conference and scholarships. It's not. The NSHSS $75 fee is a much more reasonable lifetime fee. Requirements for NSHSS membership: 3.5 Cumulative GPA (4.0 Scale) or higher (or equivalent such as 88 on a 100-point scale) 1280 SAT score or higher (new exam 2016)*. 1150 PSAT score or higher (new exam 2016)*. 26 ACT score or higher.
