The issue with the E-maxx 3906, is the idler gear in the transmission. It is made out of butter, and are not able to handle too much power. UE and RC-Monster made a hardened steel idlergear, that solved this problem, but they are getting pretty hard to get. Re: gearing for a 26 inch ? 44-16 on a 20" wheeled bike is 55 gear inches. Using this chart, 32-15, 34-16 or 36-17 would be your best bet, but any combination that got you close to 55 would work.
