It seems like the parts of the lore that gets the most negative feedback are those that had amazing set ups, characters and potential, but the reveal was lackluster or plain confusing/nonsensical, arguably "lazy" writing. Warcraft (RTS) has good lore and ofc. Chronicles books. "Day of the Dragon" and its follow up, "The War of the Ancients" Trilogy are all good books to read for lore relating to Vanilla WoW.
